About Me

Sara's Story
Sara Fontana was born in Topeka, Kansas on May 16, 1959. She was the 3rd daughter of 5 children to Ralph and Joy Guidroz. Ralph and Joy Guidroz had all of their children in different states! Ralph was in the US Air Force when Sara was born, then moved the family to South Carolina where he completed his Masters in Geology. After completing his masters degree, Ralph & Joy moved the family to Dallas where Ralph worked for Texas Instruments and Joy taught dyslexic children. After 8 years in Dallas, Sara's father moved everyone to California after he felt he was being called to work in the Catholic Church. There he completed his Masters in Theology and began a career as an early pioneer in Catholic lay ministry, professionally working in the Church.

Eventually the family moved to Lafayette Louisiana where Sara completed her high school years and first year in college. By the grace of God, it was during her freshman year in college she met Francis and their relationship began to evolve. The following year, Sara transferred to the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas to pursue an undergraduate degree in Religious Education. She completed that degree in 1981 and began her professional career in ministry in the Catholic Church. That career has ranged from Youth Ministry, to co-author a Confirmation Program, to Vocation Ministry, to Director of Religious Education, to Director of Children's Ministry, to Family Ministry and Family retreats. She later completed a Masters in Community Leadership with an emphasis in Family Ministry, from Regis University in Denver, Colorado. Her Master's project was facilitating the development of Circle Lake Family Retreat Center for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston under the mentorship of Winnie Honeywell.

Currently, Sara is the Head of Family Ministry for Deep Waters Academy (DWA) as well as working  with her husband, Francis, in their Financial Service business. www.primerica.com/francisfontana  DWA is a hybrid classroom/home-learning school that was started by their daughter and daughter-in-law in 2021.  https://www.deepwatersacademy.org/ She also volunteers as the History Teacher for 5th - 8th grade at the school.  Seven of their eleven grandchildren attend DWA.
