Who created the world? (God)
Who created men? (God)
Who created
women? (God)
So how many
have heard of the story of Adam & Eve?
Where can
you read about this story? (in the Bible)
How many of
you have a Bible? How many of you have
been taught to read the Bible? When we
pray we talk to God. Reading the Bible
is like praying because it is listening to God’s Word to us. So it’s important to take the time to read
the Bible.
Genesis 2:24
says: That is why man leaves his Father & Mother and is joined with his
wife and the two become one flesh. So
God created marriage between man & woman.
Genesis
tells us that Adam & Eve had several children. In Genesis 5: 1-5 “When God created man God
made them in the likeness of God. God
created them male & female.” Genesis
5 goes on to tell the story of Adam & Eve’s third son, Seth. The name Seth means appointed or placed. Genesis 5 continues to share about Seth and
his descendants. So Adam & Eve became grandparents!
So who
created family? (God)
The Old
Testament goes on to tell about how men & women struggled to follow God’s
commands. They cried out for a Savior.
The New
Testament tells us about Jesus Christ, our Savior, being born.
Who knows
the story of the beginning of the Christian family, when Jesus was born? Jesus was born to Mary who was married to
Joseph. John 1:16-17 says, “ The Law was
given through Moses (in the Old Testament) Grace & Truth came through Jesus
Christ.” Christ means Savior. Jesus came to show us the way to God the
Father.
So Faith in
Jesus Christ is the foundation of our Christian families. Christian families are
the place where children learn to live out what Jesus Christ teaches us and
where we are called to learn to how we
stay focused on the way Jesus Christ teaches us to live.
When my
husband, Francis, & I were married and had children we wanted to find a way
to keep our family focused on Jesus Christ on a daily basis and keep God at the
center of our lives every day. Colossians 3:16 says, "Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and
admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual
songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God". We used songs in our nightly prayer
time. I want to teach you two of these
songs.
The first is one that my 2 year old
granddaughter wants to sing every night at bed time. It’s called You’re my family and it has hand
motions.
YOU’RE MY FAMILY.
Will you come with me and walk with me and
pray with me and talk with
me.
You're my family.
Don’t leave me all alone.
Let us laugh together, cry together,
live together, die together.
I need your help together we’ll be strong.
SEEK YE FIRST
Seek ye
first the kingdom of God
And His righteousness;
And all these things shall be added unto you.
Hallelu, Hallelujah!
Ask, and it
shall be given unto you;
Seek, and you shall find.
Knock, and the door shall be opened unto you.
Hallelu, Hallelujah!
In closing I want to share with you our
family prayer. This is the prayer that our family said every morning before our kids went to school and every night
before they went to bed. The Grandkids now say it at night as well.
DEAR GOD,
GRANT US THE WISDOM TO DISCOVER THE RIGHT, THE WILL TO CHOOSE IT AND THE STRENGTH TO MAKE IT ENDURE. THANK YOU GOD FOR ONE MORE DAY. YAY GOD! Amen!
